Asaho Kamiya is a ceramic artist based in Takaoka, Toyama. In each work, Asaho breathes life into the medium of clay. Her works harness the dreams of the seas and the skies. The motifs of glistening fish scales with their tactile nature, and the rustling of bird’s feathers embed themselves under each glaze. Asaho is able to harness the fluidity of the creatures she draws inspiration from. Asaho’s works take on a life of their own as they are fired in the kiln. The final product may sometimes change organically resulting in beautiful and unique forms. She continues her practice using traditional techniques and materials which she highlights in each work.

Asaho received her B.F.A. and M.F.A from the renowned Kanazawa College of the Arts in their established craft department. She currently resides and has as studio practice in Takaoka, Toyama.
